27th day (Thursday Feb 21 2019)
We woke up at 5.45 oclock.
We prepared to go to Allied. It was our last day for OJT there. We arrived at 7
oclock. We went to seed processing. There were so many sacks of seed. They came
from contrack farmers with Allied. We learned how to record the weight and put
the checking label. At 11 oclock we went to our friends boarding house. We
cooked tinola again. We brought some Indonesian food and we had lunch together.
It was our last lunch, last day with them. We were so sad. We took pictures to
remind whennever we forgot. At 1 oclock we went to seed processing again. The assistant
learned us how to get sample to test MC (Moisture Content). We took a little
seed for each sack for 10 sacks. We collected and weighted it 200 grams
bases on the rules. We entered to Moisture mechine, pressed buttom and waited
for a while. Mousture content of these seeds were appeared. And then they
learned us how to get sample for germanating. We used the tools like sticking
hole to get seeds sample for each sacks. First we pined that tool into sack,
then we returned it to open the hole, then all the seed came inside in that
hole. And removed the tool to get the sample seed. We collected into 1 place
all seed that came from 1 farmers. We mixed it. And we put them into one sample
pocket just until a half of pocket. After that we went to QA to germinated
them. After that we took pictures. We went home.
26th day (Wednesday Feb 20 2019)
I woke up at 5 oclock. We
prepared to go to Allied. We went there by traicycle. We arrived there at 7
oclock. We met sir Horald the asistant plant patology in the farm. Because we
didnt use boot, he said that we went to QA again. In QA, we germated seed such
as pepper, bean, lottuce, etc. The sample came from many sack seed that would
give to farmer, they took a few seed every sack and collected them into one
sample peper pocket. Every pocket had to test become 4 replicants. We had to
mix the seeds and devided them to 4 groups. The purpose was to get the occurate
data. If we didnt do that, worried we get the high or low germination for one
or two of them them. It was not occurate because we knew every seeds have
different germination. Thats why we had to fair. At 11 oclock we went to my
friends boarding house. We cooked together there. The menu was chicken tinola,
I thought it seemed like soup. I liked it, it was masarap. We talked each
others with them, we learned tagalog and so did they learned bahasa Indonesia.
We did cismis (tagalog term talked someone that she/he was no there). At 1 pm,
we went to QA. We counted the seed that already germeted. If the seeds hadnt
germeted, we watered them again with enough water and kept in storage seed.
25th day (Tuesday Feb 19 2019)
At 11 am we went to our
friend's boarding house. We cooked together. The menu was adabo, I thought it
seemed like indonesian food. The chicken with soy sauce. But it was little bit
salty and saur. Over all it masarap (delicious in tagalog term). At 1 pm
we went to QA (Quality Assurance). We met the head of QA, she explained us all
about Allied Botanical Coorporation. What they did, the purpose, etc. In QA we
learned Purerity and germination. They learned us how to germinate seed. We
used tissue 4 pcs for each replicant. The circle tissue for the tiny seed while
the big square tissue fot the bigger seed like beans. First we had to write all
information from seed sample pocket to the tissue, like kind of the seed,
variety, treatment, test date, local product code, etc. After that we immersed
the corcle tissue into the water and we put it in the container. Put the 100
seed. And lid the container. For the bigger seed, first we had to immerse the
tissue and removed the first sheet, we put 100 seed and covered again with the
first sheet.
24th day (Monday Feb 18 2019)
I woke up at 5 am. I took a
bath and had breakfast. As ussual, kuya Obet fetched us to Allied Botanical
Garden. We rrived there at 6.30 am. In that day, our schedule was breeding. In
the morning, sir ezekiel the assistant of eggplant and ampalaya learned us how
to polinate eggplant, ampalaya, pepper, corn, okra. Eggplant and pepper had
complite flower while ampalaya had incomplite flower. The method was same like
in our school. For egglant and pepper before we polinated, one day before they
had to be done bagging for the unblossom flower, the purpose was to protect
from the others pollen to polinate it. After one day, it was ready to polinate.
For selfing, we got the male from their own flower. We done emasculate, but it
was okay if we left 2 or 3 male inside the flower. For crossing, we couldnt do
that. We had to remove all of the male inside because it could contaminated. For
ampalaya, same like the others, the difference was they were dioceous, thats
why we done bagging for the female one day before. There, the pepper were
second generation. They had to grow until 6 or 8 generation to get the pureity.
It would be high segragation if we done crossing when they were still low
generation. After 6 or 8 generation, they would be ready crossing to get the
better plant that deases resistan or pest resistant. For corn, there were two
ways. It was occur of okra. We done bagging the day before for unblossom
flower.
At 11 am we had break time.
We went to ojt student's boarding house and we cooked torta. Kuya Joshua made
it for us. We got eggplants from Baguio market when we were there. It was easy
to make torta, first we should grilled eggplants until black. And then we
removed the skin and flated it. After that we cracked eggplant and mixed it,
poured chopping garlic and soy sauce into. And then, added flatting torta into
egg and fried it. We ate together there. In to the afternoon, sir Jhoony
learned us how to polinate long bean. We done selfing. Just covered it with
sticky peper and made sure that it good enaugh covering. And put label.
